One of my first memories as a young child growing up in South Carolina is how my grandmother’s dinner rolls melted into my mouth. Those rolls were buttery, moist, light, and soft. I never could eat one roll; those dozens or so rolls ended up in my tummy. Rolls were more important than the main courses of my dinner, which included dessert.
I was delighted when my grandmother one day decided that I was old enough to learn how to make the family’s dinner rolls. I learned that her grandmother taught her as well, and the way to make the rolls had been in the family for countless generations. I now have a daughter, who has also learned to make these “to die for” dinner rolls.
Here’s the “modified” family recipe for my grandmother’s dinner rolls. Of course, I have to keep some key details secret, but the rolls from this recipe will put smiles on your dinner guests' faces.
